This mysterious island spent much of its recent history serving as a military base for the Yugoslav National Army, cut off from foreign visitors from the 1950s right up until 1989, resulting in the island’s preservation from development. The result is a perfect island for those in search of authenticity, nature and peace and quiet. With miles of vineyards across the island, Vis produces some very good wines.
