Northland is a story of two coastlines – the west coast is rugged and soulful while the east coast is relatively more sophisticated and urbane. A region synonymous with exclusive private lodges and cliff-top golf courses, the Northland of today is a far cry from when the Maori first paddled ashore over 1000 years ago, however their culture is still very present. Be sure to visit Waitangi Treaty Grounds, one of New Zealand's most significant historic sites.
