The Yachts That Made Them Great
Turquoise Yachts was created in 1997 when two great yacht builders, Turquoise Yacht Construction and Proteksan Yachts Inc, joined together. Both yards had been building luxury yachts since the 1970’s, with a fleet including 50m M/Y Turquoise — widely considered Turkey’s first world-class superyacht upon its launch in 1994. When the two shipyards united, the future was bright, ushering in an era of success.
The 50m M/Y Mosaique with design by Donald Starkey was one of the first builds by the newly minted company, and M/S Anatolia launched to acclaim in the same year with its Edwardian 1920’s design and Redman Whitely Dixon interior. Over the intervening 2 decades, Turquoise Yachts has moved expertly between crafting spectacular motor yachts and sailing yachts, classic motoryachts and expedition yachts, including the ice-class explorer Blue II in 2020, with design by Andre Hoek.
The yard’s largest build to date is the 77m GO, launched in 2018, with a fleet of yachts currently in construction, including the 81m Vitruvius.
The Yard
Turquoise Yachts operates over two shipyards on the outskirts of Istanbul: one in Pendik and the other just across the bay in Kocaeli. The yards are linked by a state-of-the-art floating dock that can move yachts of up to 66m between the two facilities.
The 50,000sqm Kocaeli yard is where the majority of construction is done, with three covered sheds up to 160m. The Pendik facility spans 25,000sqm and is used primarily for interior outfitting and finishing work, housing up to 8 superyachts simultaneously.
Turquoise Yachts has a team of over 150 craftsmen for customised interiors as well as high- tech engineers and project managers. Turquoise Yachts pursues innovative solutions, including its unique ‘sounds of silence’ soundproofing technology. Clients can opt to use an external designer, an in-house designer, or a combination of both on their new-build project, and Turquoise offers the development of specifications, layout plans, and detailed 3D modeling right through to the final engineering.
