Founded in 1969 by Robert Braithwaite, this iconic British yacht-builder is synonymous with speed and style. With a fleet of luxury performance boats that spans from the lightning-fast 70mph Hawk 38 tender to the spectacular 50m Ocean superyacht series, Sunseeker’s pursuit of excellence has made them one of the the great shipyards of the yachting world. Sunseeker’s yacht-building base is in Poole, England, where they build around 150 vessels each year across multiple shipyards. Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group acquired Sunseeker in 2013, but the brand continues its shipbuilding from England and remains a towering symbol of the ‘Best of British’.
Sunseeker International has always pushed the limits, even in the earliest days as Poole Power Boats. A young Robert Braithwaite was famously told that ‘ it was impossible to have a career in boats’ but he was determined to prove the naysayers wrong. And he did that right out of the gate with a range of fast luxury day boats including the Sovereign 17, Sovereign 20, Sports 23 and the Daycab 23. Sunseeker boats quickly became a favourite of the British elite, including Formula One drivers craving speed and style. In 1981, Sunseeker launched the Offshore 28, an innovative yacht designed for the Mediterranean market in collaboration with yacht designer Don Shead. Thus Sunseeker International was officially born, powering through the 80s with launches of fast, fun performance yachts including the Portofino 31 and the iconic Tomahawk 37. In the 90’s, Sunseeker International increasingly took its inspiration from the automotive world with the Renegade 60, with its innovative twin jet drives and that elegant, super-long bow. Ever-agile, Sunseeker expanded into the superyacht market in 2001, with the award-winning 105 yacht, followed by the launch of the 116, 131, and 42m Ocean. New to the range is the 50m Ocean series, with its beach club, fast displacement hull, aft deck pool and impressive interior customizability.
Today, Sunseeker International has an extraordinary range of luxury vessels for sale, across its Performance, Predator, Manhattan, Sports Yacht, Yacht, Sunseeker International is Britain’s largest yacht builder, with its centre of operations across multiple shipyards in Poole Harbour, Dorset, as well as a collaboration with Icon Yachts in the Netherlands to build the new 50M Ocean. Despite constantly pursuing the latest in technological innovation, Sunseeker continues its time-honoured process of creating hand-built, hand-finished yachts, remaining firm on the principle that the artistry of their yachts can only be achieved by human qualities.
