AEC 2 is an essential one-week course designed specifically for students pursuing the small vessel route to second engineer. It offers a balanced blend of classroom theory sessions and practical training, with approximately 50% dedicated to each aspect.
The course curriculum encompasses a variety of topics crucial for small vessel engineering, including refrigeration systems, legislative requirements concerning books and records, maintenance procedures and techniques, safe work practices, lifting and slinging protocols, electrical distribution systems, basic hydraulic systems, and management of fresh water and sewage systems.
Prior completion of an MCA-approved AEC 1 course or an equivalent recognized by the authority is a prerequisite for enrollment in AEC 2. At the conclusion of the course, students undergo an internal written test to assess their comprehension and mastery of the covered material.
IF you intend to book AEC 1+ 2 consecutively - then please be aware that this does not allow you any time to re-take the AEC 1 exam in the event that you fail the final written assessment.
We would recommend that you prepare sufficiently for both courses in advance.
In the event that you fail the AEC 1 exam and your AEC 2 is booked for the following week – you will not meet the pre-requisites for AEC 2 and the payment will be forfeited.
Written examination externally marked on the final day. If failed, 2 resits allowed in the following 6 months. Certificates will only be issued to successful candidates once exams have been marked.
