Bluewater is a Global Maritime Academy with a strong track record of providing essential and relevant training for all crew at all levels. Bluewater was the first training provider in the world approved to offer the AEC2 course. The course runs in Antibes, Palma, and Fort Lauderdale, and all upcoming dates can be found under the training section of our website.
The Approved Engine Course 2 is a mandatory 1-week course, introduced in January 2018, for crew embarking on the new small vessel route to the 2nd engineer. The method comprises approximately 50% theory and 50% practical time. It covers various subjects, including refrigeration, legislation (books and records), maintenance systems and techniques, safe work systems, lifting and slinging, electrical distribution, basic hydraulic systems, and fresh water and sewage systems.
Before taking the course, you must hold your AEC1 certificate or equivalent. If you are only starting your engineering career, please enrol for the AEC1 course first. AEC might have been called the ’Assistant Engineers Course’, often a manning requirement for Assistant Engineers. The AEC aims to give a broad and general appreciation of basic marine diesel mechanics and electrics and an understanding of the chief engineer’s responsibilities.
To discuss the content of either of these courses, please pop into one of our Crew and Training offices or call us. You can do the AEC1 at our training centres in Palma, Fort Lauderdale or Antibes, and the AEC2 can be taken in Antibes and Palma. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
