As the marketing and events manager for the crew and training department, I spend a bit of time following various yacht and crew social media pages. I love flicking through the content we’re tagged in and re-sharing as many as I can. But one page really caught my attention and I was lucky enough to get a quick interview with them.
Longevity and not taking ourselves too seriously.
The majority of the crew have been on board and worked with each other for a few years now, so we do have a lot of fun together!
Crew are generally given the opportunity and space to sort out their own disagreements. We are a close-knit crew and are generally very good at looking after each other.
As per any vessel, if it escalates further then the HODs are always there to help.
I think it’s important that everyone makes time for themselves.
We have a run club that was in full force when we were in St Barths.
Even with the boss on, there was a group of us that would run 5k most days at 6am which is a great way to start the day!
For those that aren’t into running, then we have workout equipment on the bow or the captain encourages the crew to swim on their breaks if we are at anchor.
We also have a crew area on the bow with some sofas for the crew to relax, sunbathe or read a book.
Thank you! It’s a great way to get the crew to do something fun together and it breaks up the long days!
Take time to talk to people about how you are feeling.
Bottling things up is never good, but you don’t have to speak to other crew members if you don’t feel comfortable. It can be something simple such as taking the time to go for a walk and calling your family.
What a genuinely lovely bunch of people, managing to mix hard work with fun and positivity.
Thanks for keeping us entertained, good luck with your 2022 season!
