The
Broward County Waterway Cleanup, organized by the
Marine Industries Association of South Florida, is the county’s largest and longest-running environmental event, attracting thousands of volunteers of all ages, by boat and land to clean debris from the waterways.
On Saturday March 7th, our group of volunteers arrived bright and early at Bluewater’s cleanup site at
Mizell-Johnson State Park, and set out onto the roadways, waterways, sidewalks and the beach. Together we removed bottles, cans, cigarette butts, helium balloons trailing long ribbons, and even shoes, and added them to the piles of trash that make up over
30+ tons of garbage removed each year during this county-wide event.
Each volunteer received a t-shirt with official event artwork designed by
marine artist Steve Diossy. Afterward, volunteers were treated to drinks, food, music and door prizes at the
Trash Bash, a free after-party organized by the MIASF.
