There are some exciting new developments in
crew training which
MYBA is keen to support and would like the yachting industry to be aware of.
NAVIGO (a consortium of more than 100 Italian companies based in Tuscany) has created the '
ISYL FOUNDATION', for training Superyacht cadets, in cooperation with the most important Italian shipyards (Overmarine, Perini Navi, Cantieri Navali Ugo Codecasa, Azimut Benetti), nautical institutes, trade associations and training agencies.
The NAVIGO is releasing its first cohort of cadets this spring.
These young people have been trained in the nautical school in Viareggio. They are working towards their Unlimited OOW certificates but their training has been specially slanted towards the requirements of superyacht operations. As they are cadets the ISYL Foundation will be subsidizing the salaries of their on board placements.
This is a ground-breaking new development in superyacht crewing and if you are interested in finding out more about the Careers in Superyachts Workgroup, of which MYBA is a participating member, please join us for this fantastic event.
The expected audience is those concerned by crew management, training, and crew recruitment, and is part of a much wider long-term initiative aimed ultimately at establishing a uniform worldwide training standard for students aged 18+.
The event will commence with a presentation of the new programme, following this; there will be an opportunity to meet the cadets.
The event will conclude with a drinks reception. Some of these cadets have found placements already, but others are currently seeking 6-month onboard placements on commercial yachts of 24m+ this year, and would be available to begin working rapidly.
